At the same time, three thousand years ago, city of Nin near Zadar has been developing. Founded by Liburnian tribe, it was an important cultural and political centre, bishopric and the first capital residence of the Croats. The town of Nin is a home to the smallest cathedral in the world, built during the early church architecture. Of all the bishops, the best known and the most influent was Grgur (Gregory) - advocate of the ancient Slavic language, national Glagolitic script and Glagolitic liturgy. The most valuable of numerous national treasures is the baptistery of duke Viseslav (Višeslav), which clearly indicates the beginning of baptizing of Croats.
In the city of Zadar and the inland, in Nin as well as on the islands people were engaged in various trades and crafts, salt production and other goods. Even today salt is being produced in a traditional way. Here you can find famous fish, crab and shell breeding sites, wine and olive oil production.
