Copyright: Tourist Board of Osijek-Baranja Country

Gastronomy has found its place under the roofs of a warm traditional house interior. From the past to the present this was a place under the influence of many cultures, religions and peoples, traditions and styles that have significantly influenced contemporary Slavonian cuisine. You can find čobanac (game stew), the fish stew, Slavonian kulen, plum brandy or Ilok Traminac wine.
The best wine sorts Slavonia offers include the white wines - Grasevina (Graševina), Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon..., the red wines - Traminac, Pinot Black, Cabernet Sauvignon ... Among the brandies we have herb brandy, grape brandy, plum brandy, walnut brandy, honey brandy ...

Other special dishes include smoked ham, fresh water fish like catfish, pike and pike-perch that are often prepared as a fish stew (fish-paprikaš), then edible bolete, salenjaci-cookies made of pork fat dough stuffed with jam, various walnuts and poppy loafs... Slavonian cuisine is very traditional and often nostalgic; everything is cooked in the open and accompanied with lots of passion, emotions and hard work.
Slavonian people have great respect for the land which gives them its gifts and brings happiness to their lives. Those simple people have preserved their customs, their folk costumes, dances and music from the old times. Richly ornamented hand-made shirts with gold pieces called dukati, then items of clothing made of linen and hemp have all been sewn together on the edges, ornamented with gold stitches, handmade lace...
